David Beckham could become Manchester United ambassador
This morning's Sun claims United's American owners are keen to exploit Beckham's popularity to boost the club's profile.
The paper quotes a United source, who says: "It's something that has only been whispered at this stage but Beckham will always be part of the United family.
"He could do for us what Sir Bobby Charlton has done for us all these years.
"There are emerging markets all the time and there could come a time in the very near future when Becks' association with United would be renewed. "The club has lost Cristiano Ronaldo as a key marketing tool and Becks would help fill that void when he retires."
Beckham left United under something of a cloud in 2003 after his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson became strained. However, he has always professed his continuing love for United, the club he supported as a boy.
David Beckham Could Return To Manchester United After Retirement - Report
UK tabloid The Sun reports that Manchester United are scouting out David Beckham to take on an ambassadorial role at the club once his career draws to a close. The Premier League giants are already among the very most popular teams in world sport, but the owners - the Glazer family - are nevertheless looking at ways to further enhance the club's global appeal.
And what better way to corner the worldwide market than by making perhaps the most recognisable footballer on the planet the face of your campaign?
Interestingly, it is understood that Beckham will be teamed up with Sir Alex Ferguson, the man largely responsible for the England midfielder's exit from Old Trafford in 2003, once the Scottish manager calls it quits.
Furthermore, there is a suggestion that United are hatching these plans now in an attempt to recover some of the glamour they lost with the sale of a certain Portuguese star to Real Madrid.
An 'insider' was quoted as saying, "The club has lost Cristiano Ronaldo as a key marketing tool and 'Becks' would help fill that void when he retires."
David Beckham has admitted that he would welcome the opportunity to re-join Manchester United in the New Year.
The England international is currently in America with Los Angeles Galaxy, but will head back to Europe once the MLS campaign comes to a close.
The experienced midfielder enjoyed a productive loan spell at Serie A giants AC Milan last season, as he looked to maintain his fitness levels, and a possible return to Italy has been widely touted.
However, Beckham has revealed that a move to England may not be out of the question.
Keen to retain a place in Fabio Capello's plans ahead of next summer's World Cup, the 34-year-old knows he must be playing regular football in order to be involved.
I’d Love To Play For Manchester United Again – David Beckham

The midfielder enjoyed phenomenal success during his time at Old Trafford, winning the Champions League, six Premier League titles and two FA Cups.
Beckham spent a decade at United and notched up almost 400 appearances, before moving to Real Madrid in 2003, and he has never made any secret of his fondness for the club where he made his name.
Now, speaking to the Daily Star, he has said that he would love to return to England to play for the champions again.
“I’d love to go back to United, because they are the team I support,” said the midfielder.
“For me, they are the best fans in the world. They’re the best club I’ve played for.
“Manchester United is always a team that any professional would want to play for.”
His remarks are unlikely to impress the Los Angeles Galaxy fans who have made their feelings towards Beckham well known since his return from a loan spell with AC Milan.
Despite this, Beckham is expected to return to Europe for another loan spell next year, in order to boost his chances of World Cup selection.
However, his most likely destination appears to be Milan again, rather than Manchester.
Manchester United - David Beckham looks to end his LA Galaxy nightmare with an Old Trafford return

The 34-year-old England international has recently gone back to the LA Galaxy after a loan stint at AC Milan, but his reception has been far from warm in America after the player himself hinted at wanting to stay in Italy.
Beckham was able to force his way back into England reckoning during his time in Europe, and the former Real Madrid man realises his final chance at World Cup glory probably lies away from Hollywood.
Chelsea, Tottenham and Fulham are believed to be lining up loan deals in a bid to entice Beckham back to the Premier League, but the 34-year-old has his heart set on a return to Manchester United.
"I'd love to go back to United because they are the team I support," Beckham told Zoo magazine.
"For me, they are the best fans in the world. They're the best club I've played for, but I'm 34 years old now - I'm getting a little bit older."
"Manchester United is always a team that any professional would want to play for."
