Sunderland have completed the signing of Fraizer Campbell from Manchester United after the 21-year-old passed his medical.
The deal has been valued at an initial £3.5 million with the fee expected to rise to £6 million depending on performances.
The England under-21 international snubbed the overtures of Hull City to sign a four-year deal with the Black Cats. He starred for Phil Brown's side in their 2007/08 promotion campaign, in which he scored 15 goals.
Campbell spent the majority of last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, after being included as a makeweight for Dimitar Berbatov's transfer in the other direction.
He failed to hold a starting berth at White Hart Lane though and made only 22 appearances, scoring three times, for Spurs.
He was recently part of England's under-21 European Championship campaign but missed the final defeat to Germany through suspension.
