David Beckham Could Return To Manchester United After Retirement - Report

UK tabloid The Sun reports that Manchester United are scouting out David Beckham to take on an ambassadorial role at the club once his career draws to a close.

The Premier League giants are already among the very most popular teams in world sport, but the owners - the Glazer family - are nevertheless looking at ways to further enhance the club's global appeal.

And what better way to corner the worldwide market than by making perhaps the most recognisable footballer on the planet the face of your campaign?

Interestingly, it is understood that Beckham will be teamed up with Sir Alex Ferguson, the man largely responsible for the England midfielder's exit from Old Trafford in 2003, once the Scottish manager calls it quits.

Furthermore, there is a suggestion that United are hatching these plans now in an attempt to recover some of the glamour they lost with the sale of a certain Portuguese star to Real Madrid.

An 'insider' was quoted as saying, "The club has lost Cristiano Ronaldo as a key marketing tool and 'Becks' would help fill that void when he retires."
