Rio Ferdinand: Manchester United Will Be Successful This Season

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has tipped the club to continue going from strength-to-strength this season, despite losing Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez to Real Madrid and Manchester City respectively this summer.

Ferdinand is confident United are still in a strong position to retain the Premier League title after a gruelling tour of Asia.

"Asia was a long tour for us and I think physically we're tired after that," Ferdinand told Sky Sports News after a penalty shootout defeat to Bayern Munich.

"We're on the right road. Obviously we lost two very big players in Cristiano and Carlos but Manchester United moves on and hopefully we'll continue to be successful."

Ferdinand also reserved praise for new United signings Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia, who will attempt to fill the void left by Tevez and Ronaldo this season.

He added, "He [Owen] scored a lot of goals on the tour and he's fitting in very well. Antonio Valencia has done very well as well."
